WinEdt Dictionaries =================== By default WinEdt comes with a set of dictionaries for American and British English. The dictionaries are already installed in WinEdt's Dict\English folder. However, you may want to read and interesting document English.txt in the above mentioned folder and make a few choices pertaining to different spelling rules and available alternatives... If you are writing in more than one language you should also consult the document Modes.txt in WinEdt's Doc folder to see how you should best take advantage of WinEdt's ability to tie dictionaries to submodes. _______________________________________________________________________ DISCLAIMER: None of WinEdt's dictionary creators/ maintainers take any responsibility for problems, if any, caused by WinEdt or their dictionaries! _______________________________________________________________________ WinEdt's Dictionaries (word lists) are available on CTAN: ftp://dtp.dante.de (Germany) /tex-archive ftp://ftp.tex.ac.uk (England) /tex-archive ftp://tug2.cs.umb.edu (USA) /tex-archive tex-archive/systems/win32/winedt/dict Dictionaries in this directory have been included in WinEdt's distribution with the permission of their authors. Please read the ".txt" files for any copyright or copyleft notices and other relevant information for a particular dictionary... On WinEdt's downloads page www.winedt.com you'll find links to all currently available word-lists. In particular, you may want to install the English Dictionary that comes with the install macro script and allows you to choose between different spelling conventions... _______________________________________________________________________ WinEdt can use up to 255 different dictionaries simultaneously. You can specify to which dictionary new words are to be inserted and more. This makes network installations easier. Read the online help in Dictionary Manager Dialog for more guidelines... _______________________________________________________________________ WinEdt has a sub-directory called "Dict". The only files that should be in this directory are * "0Readme.txt", the file you are reading, * "User.dic", the users personal dictionary, and * "WinEdt.dic", a small dictionary with TeX words, names, etc... If you want to add a new dictionary to WinEdt, create a sub-directory in "dict" with a name of the dictionary itself. E.g., if you want to add the Russian dictionary "ru.dic" (which is inside "ru.zip"), then you would place it in the directory ".\dict\ru". Some dictionaries (for example DE.zip) might do this for you automatically when un-packing. The directory structure is as follows: ($WINEDT-DIR$ is the directory where WinEdt is installed) $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/main/$LANGUAGE$.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/main/addon.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/main/remove.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/abbreviations.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/astronomy.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/biology.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/chemistry.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/computer+electronics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/economics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/forenames.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/geography.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/geology.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/informatics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/law.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/main.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/marks.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/mathematics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/medicine.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/names.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/organizations.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/physics.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/$LANGUAGE$/additional/unsorted.dic [maybe some more ...] $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/geography.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/latin.dic $WINEDT-DIR$/dict/international/marks.dic You may not have any additional dictionaries for your language, in which case you simply put the main dictionary under the directory which you created for your language. _______________________________________________________________________ At the moment, WinEdt has registered users in over 40 countries. It is impossible for me to collect and maintain dictionaries for all these languages. However, should you (the user) compile a dictionary that might be of interest to other WinEdt users and you are willing to share it with others, please let me know. I welcome contributions that can be added to this directory (with the appropriate credit and copyright notice). alex (e-mail: alex@winedt.com) _______________________________________________________________________
