Monte Carlo Resort Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. - June 25-28, 2001
Session on Hardware and Software Aspects of Evolvable Systems
About the Conference:
The 2001 International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications ( PDPTA-2001 ) will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 25 - 28, 2001. PDPTA'2001 will be held simultaneously with a number of other international conferences and workshops (CISST'2001, IC-AI'2001, IC'2001, METMBS'2001, CIC'2001, ...)
The last conference (PDPTA'2000) had research contributions from 46 countries (with over 1100 participants from all over the world.) It is hoped that PDPTA'2001 will also have a strong international flavor. Up-to-date information about the 2001 International Multiconference is already available.
About this session:
Most of the technologies used in evolvable systems such as genetic algorithms, artificial neural networks, configurable computers and integrated circuits are known for about half a century. However, only during the last decade they achieved a degree of maturity that made possible to build highly complex systems to comply with the ever increasing need for high performance computers. Nowadays it is possible to design systems that adapt themselves to the demands of the target applications. As in traditional coustom systems, the topology of evolvable systems should reflect the peculiarities of the target application to provide the user with the best possible performance. However, having a configurable topology, and a degree of intelligence, unlike traditional coustom systems evolvable systems are able to adjust their configuration on-the-fly in order to effectively and efficiently reflect application needs.
The aim of this session is to bring together researchers in the field of evolvable systems interested both in its hardware and software aspects to discuss the state of the art in their specialties as well as to try to stablish short and long term goals that can be achieved.
Topics of interest to this session include, but are not limited to the following:
Artificial Neural Networks
Configurable Architectures
Digital Circuits
Dinamicaly Configurable Logic Devices
Distributed Systems
Evolutionary Algorithms
Evolutionary Computing
Evolvable Hardware
Evolving Machines
Fault Tolerance
Genetic Algorithms
Genetic Programming
High Performance Computing
(Re-)Configurable Computing
Schedule for prospective authors:
| Deadline for submission of papers | 1st March 2001 |
| Notification of acceptance/rejection | 15 March 2001 |
| Final version of accepted papers due | 1st May 2001 |
Submission of Papers:
Prospective authors are invited to submit three copies of their draft paper (about 4 to 5 pages) to the session's chair (address is given below) by the due date. E-mail and Fax submissions are also acceptable. Papers must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere.
The first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation, postal address, E-mail address, telephone number, and Fax number for each author. The first page should also include the name of the author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) and a maximum of 5 keywords.
The length of the camera-ready papers will be limited to 7 pages. Further instructions for the preparation and submission of the camera-ready version will be provided in due time for the authors of accepted papers.
Evaluation Process:
Papers will be evaluated for originality, significance, clarity, and soundness. Each paper will be refereed by two researchers in the topical area. The Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by one person.
Publication:
The conference proceedings will be published by CSREA Press (ISBN) in hardcopy. It will be a multivolume set. The proceedings will be available at the conference. Some accepted papers will also be considered, by the Conference Program Committee, for journal publication (soon after the conference). (In addition to the hardcopy, it is also planned to publish the papers on a CD.)
